Late September/early October it was the Gordon's turn to join Lauri and me in Hawaii. We met them at the airport and passed out leis.
The boys headed over to the baggage claim area.
Chillin' on the lanai before the day gets started.
They just had to start out a Hawaii vacation on the beach playing in the sand. They would have done this all day every day if they had been offered the choice.
Of course, even though we were just going to the beach to see the ocean and to dip our feet in the water, that wasn't enough for some!
We went back later after church and watched the sun set and waded, of course.
Everyone was worn out by the end of the day.
Monday I took the day off from work and we did a little tour of the island. Of course, we started at Pali Lookout.
And then went to the Byodo-In Temple and let the boys ring the bell.
Inside the temple.
Everyone got into the act feeding the birds and the fish.
Even though it is still under construction, we were able to get good photos since the scaffolding is down and the color is white again.
Caleb decided that hibiscus is his favorite flower.
Posing at the visitor's center.
Looking at the rock crab that grandpa caught on Laniakea Beach.
Admiring the turtles!
And, of course, playing in the water.
Yummmm!! Enjoying a shave ice at Matsumoto's.
No trip would be complete without a stop at the Dole Plantation.
The boys were checking out how pineapples grow.
And feeding the koi in the pond.
And posing with mom and dad.
Dinner at On Dong - one of grandma and grandpa's favorites.
While grandpa was at work on Tuesday, the Gordon's went on a lunch cruise.
They enjoyed the sites. . .
and did some crafts. . .
and just had a lot of fun.
Afterwards, they went looking for geckos in the International Marketplace.
After dinner we decided to go for a late swim. This is as far as we got. The water was icy!
Wednesday was the day to visit Pearl Harbor.
And the U.S.S. Missouri.
Grandpa met them on the bus ride back to Waikiki to go on the submarine ride with them.
Waiting on the dock for the launch to take us out to the submarine.
On the way out.
On board the submarine as it is preparing to dive.
Looking at shipwreck and fish and all the neat things grandpa gets to see when he is diving.
Exiting the submarine.
Spencer got a lift home.
spencer was burning the candle at both ends, so he crashed in the chair waiting to eat.
Caleb and Spencer got to go to Legoland and pick out some Lego pieces to take home. They also managed to pay with some of the stuff in the store while they were at it.
Dinner at the Bluewater Shrimp Company bus. Yumm!
The boys back a Pearl Harbor playing with the artifacts. . .
. . .and a couple of coconuts.
Back at Dole, picking hibiscus.
There are very few photos during this entire week where Caleb is not wearing his lei.
This time we got to ride the train.
Back to Laniakea Beach to play in the water.
Dave and I snorkled a little bit. . .
. . .and even found a few turtles.
Since Rosie's is now closed for good, we tried Spaghettini's. It was pretty good.
Back to Waikiki and the beach.
The boys would have been happy to spend the entire week right here.
Cleaning off the sand in the hotel's icy pool. Brrrr.
Chili Rojo for dinner since it was Conference Weekend.
Family photos on the last evening before heading to the airport.
This sure captures his personality!
As does this one as well.
What a great ending to a fun week.
Buddies.
And then, they were off to the mainland and back to the everyday business at home.
