"Sunrise From Paka's Place"
I am so lucky! This is my view from the deck of my home many mornings as the sun is about to come up. We were pretty adamant that the tree in the left foreground "had" to come out. We will probably still remove the dead portion, but it does make for a great composition. Lehi, Utah, USA, September 25, 2013. f/5.6, 1/60 second, ISO 500.

Lehi

If you spend a lot of time photographing sunsets, you know that more often than not, they arrive and fade into oblivion without there ever being that "ahah" moment you are looking for. Once in a while, you manage to capture that moment. Once in a very long time, the moment lasts for minutes and you can capture several at one time. This is the first in a series of 4 shots of such an evening made possible by the smoke from another wildfire! Lehi, Utah, USA, August 16, 2013. f/18, 1/200 second, ISO 200.

Tibble Fork

Took the grandkids fishing for the evening. It was a fun trip, but the sunset was unusual. There was a normal sunset up in the canyon, nothing spectacular or unusual. It then got quite dark before the sky suddenly took on this rosy glow and for a while it got light enough to stay and continue fishing for a while longer. It cast a rosy hue on the ground and everything around. Interesting! Tibble Fork Reservoir, American Fork Canyon, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Utah County, Utah, USA, July 22, 2013. f/2.4, 1/20 second, ISO 100.

Saratoga Springs

American Pronghorn
A little group has hung out all summer right by the road. I have been tempted to stop to photograph them several times. Every time I do, they take off. This was no exception. Shortly after this shot was taken, they headed out. Saratoga Springs, Utah County, Utah, USA, June 22, 2013. f/6.3, 1/640 second, ISO 200.

Hoodoos

Fall at the Hoodoos
One of our family's favorite places on the earth. We love to spend time there in the Spring and in the Fall, and are learning to love Winter as well. Still not crazy about the heat of Summer, but have spent some time then as well. For years, we have hiked up to some hoodoos near Checkerboard Mesa and played on what the kids always called the "pancake rocks." This view is from that area and now hangs on the wall in a place of prominence in our Family Room. Zion National Park, Mt. Carmel Junction, Kane County, Utah, USA, October 13, 2012. f/7.1, 1/200 second, ISO 200.

Orem

Wildfire
Every summer we run the risk here in the western US of wildfires. It seems recently, that we get them more and more frequently right near the cities where we live. This plume of smoke appeared within just a very few minutes of this fire starting. Almost immediately, the fire consumed 500 acres, damaged two homes, consumed a barn, and quickly spread to 2,000 acres. This began from some construction equipment in the town of Alpine, and spread up Willow Canyon from there. Scary, but impressive display of what can go horribly wrong in a few moments when conditions are right. Alpine, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Utah, USA, July 3, 2012. f/10, 1/400 second, ISO 200.
