Conference Weekend

Friday night Lauri and I went on a Sunset Dinner Cruise on the Navatek I. It is a Catamaran and we had a nice Hawaiian dinner and then during the entertainment, we went out on the deck and wandered around, watched the sunset and just talked.

Next morning early (6:00 am) we turned on the computer and about a half-hour into the first session, finally managed to get a live feed over the internet. We watched the rest of the session and then went back and watched the first half-hour. The second session was not a problem and we were able to watch it live.

After conference, we were planning to go hike Diamond Head, but when we finally found something that told about the hike, we decided it would be better some other trip when we could do it early in the morning before it gets really hot. So instead we went down to Waikiki and went to the Honolulu Aquarium.

It isn’t very big, but they do have a fair amount of critters from around here. The outdoor exhibits are the best. They a wave pool, a coral growing exhibit, and the Monk Seal enclosure.

After the Aquarium, we walked back to The Blue Water Shrimp & Seafood Company truck and had Garlic Shrimp for dinner. Yummy!

I got ready and went to the Priesthood Session at the Tabernacle.

Sunday morning we were up early again and it only took us about 15 minutes to get a live feed, so we ended up watching part of the session over later. Both sessions were exceptional and several times at the end of a talk I found myself thinking, "That was the best talk of the conference," only to think the same thing a little while later.

Some of the highlights for me were:

President Thomas S. Monson's talk on temples and temple dedications. L. Tom Perry's talk on the cycle of life with times of scarcity and times of plenty. Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk on enduring sorrow and adversity. "Come what may, and love it." President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's Priesthood Session talk on "lifting where we stand." Elaine S. Dalton's talk on temples, temple ordinances, and a return to virtue. Boyd K. Packer's talk on the safe passage ahead that the Lord always prepares for troubled times. Eduardo Gavarret's talk on bringing the disaffected and inactive members back to full activity in the Church.
