Laniakea Beach

Whenever we can, we drive over to Hale'iwa to Laniakea Beach to see the turtles. It has become one of Lauri and my favorite places on the island. This time, there were several turtle hauled out on the sand basking in the sun.



These guys were sleeping away, even though they were surrounded by noisy tourists that had to be a distraction.





Usually, we don't plan well and come without swimming suits and snorkel gear, but today we planned ahead and I got to swim with some of them. It is fun to watch them gliding underneath you eating as they go.

Once in a while one will surface for a quick breath of air, and. . .

then it is back down to the bottom to continue feeding.




Anytime but winter this really is a great place to come spend a few minutes snorkeling and watching the turtles. they just pretty much ignore people here and don't seem the least bit afraid. Not the case with the fish here, however. People spear-fish here and the fish are very skittish.








When we were done we drove through Hale'iwa to see if they had a rotisserie chickens for sale. Much to our surprise, Rosies was still open so we had to have dinner there one last time.

I had the Chili Verde - very good! I wish I had their recipe.

Lauri went with the Tamales.

Unfortunately, that is the last time. They got a temporary reprieve, but are definitely closing so one of our old stand-bys is now gone!

Ward Picnic - Magic Island

Since we were here, we went made some brownies and went over to the Makiki Ward picnic at Magic Island Beach Park. It wasn't a really big turnout, but we enjoyed visiting with a few of the Ward folks, including the Bishop and his wife.


They conned me into playing volleyball, even though I was dying of heat and sweating like crazy out in the sun.


It is summer time and the grass is turning brown, but still a nice view!

Picnic With the Lunts

Since Cameron's parent were in town this weekend, we decided to have a family picnic in the backyard. Nothing fancy, but just a chance to get together and enjoy each other's company.

Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House

Today was the last day of the Temple Open House. We were really afraid that the crowds would be massive and it would take hours in line in the sun and heat in order to get in. It was not that way at all - only about a half hour!


Rebecca and I were looking up at the spire and the stained glass windows.

It is a gorgious temple. It is nice to be able to live where we get to see so many of these open houses and dedications. Now, we need to go!




Posing for photos afterwards with the wind blowing hair and the sun right in our eyes was a real challenge, but we managed to get every combination.

Go Fish!

This morning I met Dave and Caleb and Spencer at his office and we drove over to Lehi to the Lehi Pond and went fishing. I had no idea they had created the pond and it is quite nice.

Here they are on on of the little platforms that are around the pond (kind of a big pond, small lake actually) dock gearing up and getting ready to go.



It wasn't long before Caleb caught the first fish! It was a little Black Crappie. He has done something Grandpa has never done - caught a Crappie.




He caught it but would not touch it.


But Spencer wanted to touched it!


We could see fish, like this albino rainbow trout, but just couldn't get them to bite. The baby bass in the lake weren't shy, though and kept stealing the bait.





Caleb is hungry, and doing something about it.

Even though Caleb's fish was the only one we caught, we all had fun and will certainly do it again!

July 24th

Rosemarie had the whole Smith family over to celebrate the 24th. Rebecca made these really cool salad kabobs
